Well if you are doing drops you don't want to break the bank, all the locators mentioned are very good , but you may want to use a Metro Tech 810 they show depth and you don't have to mess with gain and freq settings and the depth readings are acurate within a few inches (if you know what u are doing) Just be careful on those gas lines if the wire on a serve is not tied in correctly to the main you will pu signal going only one way on the main and maybe not at all. (this will happen with all locators) that is why the gas co uses pipehorns. No locate equip is completely accurate that is why locators are not responsible for giving depth readings and are told not to do so. Good Luck and you can find them on Ebay just make sure you get a guarantee of at least 30days (there are a few that offer this) All locate equip. can be cleaned up ... but they won't jump out and tell you that they have been thrown a few times .. or left in bed of truck during rain or snow storm. Even had one DA who put batteries in backwards and could not understand why it started smoking lol , unit was burnt up but still looked brand new to the eye. Happy Hunting.
