The reason why the cable companies did not go ftth is the end user equipment (little black box) cost as much per home as the construction. We est. that the job in Portland with RCN was being built for about $980-$1100 per home and the box alone was $900. The cable company had this same dilema with their choice to work the ftth angle. I have been told that Comcast will not move on any race for ftth in any significant amount for the next two years. I do know they are doing it in some areas like NY and other parts. But no significant roll out of ftth for Comcast until the market comes down again. The good news is the phone co. is now the group racing to be first and fastest on the block. The prices should start jumping pretty good this next year. Good luck all.
