Ads seeking work are free to Premier members. They were free to everyone in the past but it was abused.
Back when it was a free-for-all, there were a hundred new ads on here every day. Almost no one followed the rules and those who did lost out as their ads were buried by the others. People looking at the ads for something had to pick through all that noise. Trying to enforce the rules was a waste of time as the abusers would just create a new account and keep going.
The only way to take control of the ads and make it fair for everyone was to charge per ad, or make them free only to paid accounts.
The intention of this site was never "to help" anyone. I'm glad that has been a side-effect but I started it for completely selfish reasons, because I enjoyed doing it. Over the years it took increasingly more of my time and became work instead of fun. People far wealthier than me were profiting from the site being here so it only made sense to turn it into a for-profit business.
Who this business' customers are is an important consideration. If I only charge for ads then the "customers" are the people buying the ads, mainly those doing the hiring. Will I be serving my "customers" if I continue allowing negative (even though truthful) posts about them in the forums? I've been told that certain companies won't advertise on here because I allow that sort of thing. That's fine by me, but it's why Premier accounts are important. The little guys are the "customers" too.
