Equipment needed for audit: Dykes, 7/16ths, pliers, gaffs or ladder, hard hat, pouch with pockets big enough to carry tags and terminators, several pens/pencils/Sharpies, etc. (you'll definetely lose 'em throughout the day), and strippers/crimpers if replacing fittings.
As far as climbing equipment goes, I've always used a ladder if plant is street-side because its faster for me. I save the gaffs for rear easement/no alleys, which was the norm for most nodes I audited. You seriously won't make any money trying to ladder that backyard crap.
So, if you don't gaff and your nodes are rear easement, either learn how to gaff or find another project.
Good luck. Hope ya make a bunch of $$$
