Re: passive optical networking is PON

Member Uploaded Image

A PON is a shared network architecture that transports optical signals from a service provider's central office (CO) and distributes them in tree-branch fashion to 32 subscribers. Because it is passive, no active electronics are needed within a five-mile radius of the CO or active node. PON technology is proving to be the most cost and labor-efficient method for delivering converged voice, video and data services to homes and businesses.
