I believe due to the lack of CATV work, with sub contractors going out of business due to the decline in rates, as with FTTH and BPL work gaining, that prime contractors will be forced to go with in house crews on hourly wages, getting away from unit work.
Verizon/SBC don't want primes using the standard CATV sub contract crews due to Safety Issues associated with high production and their PR image. This is where they will be missing the boat with their FTTH project, they need production "NOW" and only the standard CATV sub contract type crews will produce to meet their Sch'd, within their budget. Hang in there Line Dawg's , better days are ahead.
