If ya can get your hands on a tdr, that along with a VOM with a continuity check function will work wonders for you.
I always try to start in the middle or a common junction such as a D.C. or line splitter also helps to have someone with ya to work the other end.
Gotta love those night time outages when your back up man is too drunk to leave his house!
