Once again I agree with you. I actually believe that we should somehow be regulated, or shall I say that the techs be regulated. We have seen our fair share of BAD techs. I will give one for example:
Tech consitantly extorted money from the customers and us. Tech would get creative on billing. I.E. Mounting a dish to a chain link fence with zip ties and invoicing me for a pole mount. (Obviously we sent out a tech to correct). Going into customers refridgerators for refreshments. Being a racist and being public about it. Having a customer file a tresspass warrant against him for refusing to leave her property and the list goes on and on.
We had him escorted off the property via local law enforcement and with held his LAST commission check to offset his damages, re-imbursment of monies to customers, re-installing his work or correcting etc.
What I got in return, he ran to the next sub contractor and he actually used me as a referance. The sub contractor called me and I disclosed to him all the issues. The sub contractor actually has hired him and has given access to econnect so the tech can compile information to ATTEMPT to sue us through the state. We have won twice already and are preparing for his THIRD appeal.
In short, we did our part in protecting the customer. Attempted to protect another sub and future potential customers by disclosing the issues. Noified DNSC of the issues and offered to provided written documentation from customers (mostly senior citizens) and they simply looked the other way.
It is my opinion that Dish simpy does not care as long as the work gets done, specifically completion percentages.
In my opinion we have done our part and are continue to do our part, it is a shame that we cannot come up with some method to protect our customers and companies against individuals like this. It maybe that we have just had bad expeirences with techs.
We are very fair and very focused on the tech. I believe that we are only as successful as our people. I have gone as far as buying the tech's vans, (only to be used like bumper cars) purchased there tools, (only to be pawned or lost) provided with all insurances (including medical benefits) and only to used and spit out.
I got into this industry thinking that we could bring prfessionalism to a industry that starves for professionalism, what I did not consider is that NO ONE cares in the origanization.
What we have learned is that you are only valualbe today. How many jobs can you do today! But you cannot ask where they are at, you cannot question the accuracy of the work order, you cannot question DISH if they do not have the inventory in stock, you still have to get the job done, you cannot ask where your equipment credits are, you cannot challange them on your labor payments. If you are willing to do all the above then you will get all the work that you can handle with dish. The problem is that eventually you will go broke. In my opinion this is the main reason why companies disappear over night or the reason why companies owe money to techs that they cannot pay them.
In short, there needs to be regualtion on both sides. It is next too impossible to create a SUCCESSFUL, WELL STRUCTURED company and work enviroment for all. (Tech's, Owners, Mang etc.)
We will try and try again, it just seems as we attempt to make all (DISH, TECHS) happy, it comes at my financial and emotional expense.
Just some thoughts................
