this should also be a two way street since he by your own words started you out.
1 he should get a no compete agreement from you since he trained and outfitted you.
2 he should require you to provide him with completion bond so if you miss a deadline he can send someone else to do or finish the job and send you the bill
3 you should supply a general bond for one year after you have completed the job in case there are any problems he can back charge you
4 do you have the 1 million in insurance with him as the also insured
5 are you completly up todate on all osha , state and permits that are required
6 have you put up a fiduciary bond to prove that you are financialy capable of being the big dog you want to be
7as far as him paying contracts arent worth the paper they are written on if he blows all the money and cant pay up
8 you need to ask yourself why you dont trust him when he trusted you enough to give you tools and training and didnt want thesethings written down from you
