Victor and danimal have pointed out two of the reasons another is the tension that is put on the wire by the lasher rollers at the time of installation. We have found that using less tension (obtained by rerouting the wire thru the roller path or, in extreme cases, using only one roller) during the warm seasons seems to help reduce breakage when the cooler seasons come. Essentially this acts as an expansion loop does in the coax only the "slack" is stored throughout the entire span. Whatever you do rest assured that you will never eliminate it completely, however after the first two years have passed and you have repaired all the breaks as they occurred you won't have many after that.
