From everything I've been told, this is gonna be a
totally new concept in telecommunications choices for the
consumer.
First, this is a completely FTTH setup. It's glass from the
head-end to the home. No coax anywhere in the system.
There will be choices in the services available to the consumer. Several LD Companies to choose from..... Choices as far as your ISP is concerned and, from what I understand, you'll be able to put together your own programming packages.
One of the things that makes this unique is the fact that the whole thing is being paid for by all the municipalities that are involved in the project. So far, I think there are 17 cities involved. There were 18, but 1 dropped out.
This is thier flagship system, here in Utah. I've been told that interest is developing in other markets around the country. My guess is that when this system is up and running, we'll be seeing them pop up all over the country.
