WildBlue Communications said it signed a deal with KoSPACE in which the RF/microwave company will produce Ka-Band transceivers for WildBlue's consumer and small office/home office broadband Internet service.
The transceiver contains sophisticated electronics in WildBlue's 26-inch satellite dish antenna, which will wirelessly transmit and receive data from WildBlue's satellite to each consumer's home or office. KoSPACE, formerly a division of Hyundai Electronics Industries, is best known in satellite circles for delivering payload RF components for Globalstar's space segment.
WildBlue is targeting its satellite-based broadband service to an estimated 30 million homes and small offices that don't have access to other broadband Internet options. Service is set to begin in early 2005.
