Hello,
My company has been placed into the responsibility of installing and servicing a good portion of VOOM satellite systems. However, we have had as many problems with the receivers picking up locals OTA with the Winguard antenna supplied as well as a large number of systems just locking up or freezing. I hate to say it but the ratio of service calls to customers installed is around 3.5 out of 5. I don't think it is us-we have installed over 10,000 dishes until now and have never heard of such a failure rate.
I think that Voom will eventually will be a great product and is in itself a cornerstone for HDTV. But it also seems that we need a 150 mile YAGI for every dish to acheive locals-even 25 miles from the candlestick.
Ultimately I am looking towards peers in this room that can lend me thier own 2 cents.
Yeah, don't bother about "Voom sucks" or whatever alot of people might say, just trying to find the more productive approach while there is little known about the product-even if what is known is more clandestine.
Regards
JM
