TXU Electric Delivery, which operates the network that distributes electricity to homes and businesses, said it had about 3,700 workers repairing lines, poles and transformers Friday.

That figure, which is about four times TXU's typical crew of about 1,000, includes about 1,750 contractors and 200 employees of other utilities outside of Texas, said John Starkey, manager of construction services for TXU Electric Delivery.

One of those contractors suffered severe electrical burns while working on a high-voltage line Friday afternoon in the Oak Cliff neighborhood in south Dallas, Dallas Fire Department officials said. The worker, whose name was not available, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in serious condition, officials said.

Only one TXU worker has been hurt while repairing damage from the storm. That injury was minor, Hunter said.
