High Definition Receivers

I realize a cable box is required to receive pay channels. I have a HDTV monitor. I pay for my digital cable service.

That being said, if I buy a High Definition receiver, will it pick-up the cable companies HDTV signals? And will the HD receiver also pick-up the cable companies digital channels as well?

I do not wish to 'rent' a HD cable box and dont care about the pay movie channels, but do wish to retain all my digital channels I am paying for as well as the HD programming offered by the cable company.

I just think it is ludacris to pay 'rental' fees on a cable box and an additional carge for the remote.

Also, looking at HD receivers, (ebay) most all say something like 'comes with a p4 card' or p3 or p5. What is a p4 or whatever card for and what does it do and is it needed? I think it has to do with satellite tv?

Any responses are greatly appreciated.(usa)
