upgrading 450 c-cor gear

Has anyone tried upgrading 450 C-Cor gear to 550 with a return path. I am dealing with M2567 minitrunks, E507 and E517 LE's. I was not sure if the housing were the same or if the 550 gear shared the same housings with the 750 gear. Also I heard that you could swap out the foward amps and interstage response boards to the same effect as replacing the mods. If anyone has done this I would greatly appreciate any info you might have.
