Re: how many yrs

I remember working with the old line gear, (AEL, Kaiser, RCA, Vikoa, Ameco, SKL, 30volt stuff, ect...), and not wrecking it out either when it was still in operation...the industry has come a LONG way!

Also remember working with the old Tektronix 7L12 when proof-of-performance testing was done "long-hand" and not by a "push of the button" as it is today. Having to plot EACH individual carrier in the system (audio and video) at end-of-line testpoints by hand.

We also had to bench repair old taps and splitters. Soldering iron and the Wavetek analog bench sweep with RF comparator were part of the program. If you couldn't use cut it, you were doing installs, service calls or playing dispatcher.

Same thing with sweeping. Anyone remember the old Wavetek 1855-1865 combo and the Aventek sweep? Boy, they did a semi-respectful job for their time (if the batteries did not quit on you), but was a major pain for the operator espically when there were no bucket trucks. Had to carry lots of old "black & white" poloroid film that did not develope half of the time, espically in sub-zero weather. Sweeping todays modern amplifiers with the Wavetek Stealth is a piece of cake! It's like comparing a .22-cal to a .44 Magnum in the amount of effective performance...lol.

Those were the good old days. Does that count...lol ?
