You can sue then in the State the work was performed or you can sue them in their home State.
First, call the company's client (Cable Company) and ask to speak to the legal department. Act real ignorant and slightly whinney and ask them what to do about the invoice. Most Primes have a contract clause that stipulates that they must pay their sub contractors and Cable Companys get bent out of shape when Primes fail to do that and will contact the Prime and tell them to take care of their business. If that does not work then...
Go down to the local courthouse, tell the clerk you want to sue these people for non payment of invoice, and you will be given instructions on what to do. Fees are usually nominal to file and $50 to $60 to serve the Defendant. Most likely, the Defenant will settle right away or just not show up at the hearing. But whether the Defendant shows up or not, be sure to have all the documentation ready to show the Judge.
Might be a good idea to file a UCC-1 on them to secure your debt. You will have to file it in the State where the home office of the Defendant is. Just call the Secretary of State or go online. Fees are usually under $20 to file a UCC-1 document.
A mechanic's lein is a waste of time since they are easy to discharge and in many cases, you won't be able to do it if a certain amout of time has elapsed.
Good Luck,
