Back Charge- Billings for work performed or costs incurred by one party that, in accordance with the agreement, should have been performed or incurred by the party to who billed.
Owners bill back charges to general contractors, and
general contractors bill back charges to subcontractors.
Examples of back charges include charges for cleanup work or to repair something damaged by another subcontractor.
I replied to the inquiry about Unauthorized Deductions from Pay, under the assumption that the individual may have been an employee.
Under the terms of "Back Charge", it sounds like you were hired as a contractor or a sub. If this is the case, then it's a whole different can of worms.
Back Charges are not unauthorized deductions from pay, it's an agreement that you are responsible to fulfill an obligation.
If you haven't already, thoroughly read the contract or agreement you signed when you won the bid or when you started the project. "Back Charges" and your responsibilities SHOULD be clearly stated.
Unfortunately...If you signed a contract or agreement without reading, understanding, or amending the wording, or responsibilities you are being held accountable, and are being charged for repair or cleanup... you may be SKRUDE!!!
That contract is binding, and unless you got the lawyers and $bucks$...#@%&$#
