A T-1 can either be time multiplexed or freq multiplex, but it's 24 seperate channels or time slots that are multiplexed within a 1.2 or 2 MHZ amount of bandwidth. This is done between the headend and customer. Each channel represents a 64kbps channel and mostly used for telephony.
