I changed it a short while ago. It used to be that when you sent a message it would remain in both your Sent messages and the recipient's Inbox until one or the other deleted it. That was confusing as to who was responsible for it since both actually owned it and could delete it without the other knowing. So I tried "fixing" it by making it only stay in your Sent messages until the recipient reads it, at which point he becomes the sole owner and you can no longer see it.

It's explained better in the General section under the Information menu.

I'm just realizing that way is probably not the best strategy either. I could have put two "deleted" flags onto each message so each party gets to delete it on thier end, which is what most people are accustomed to, like with e-mail. I may have to change it again.
