STARLINE SX Series Trunk Amplifiers:
The STARLINE SX housing is compatible with the existing base of SJ electronics, as well as the X Series of STARLINE amplifiers. The SX amplifier housing provides compatibility with SJ product dating back to the late 1960s. SX trunk and bridger modules are direct replacements for the STARLINE X product line actives. The SX chassis accommodates X Series return amplifiers and RSM status monitor modules.
The SX trunk and bridger modules were designed with plug-in assemblies for setting operational tilts and bridger slopes. This provided system engineers the ability to use SX for super- or main-trunk lines. The plug-in devices can be changed to match operating tilts or slopes of existing systems or to optimize distortions.
The SX housing, chassis and passive accessories have been designed for cascaded operation up to 750 MHz bandwidth. The SX chassis and module architecture are also designed to fully accommodate Cableoptics technology. Feedforward trunk modules are available for 450 MHz mainstations. In addition, power doubling can also be selected. Feedforward amplifier modules can save thousands of dollars in rebuild and new construction costs. Power doubling and feedforward trunk modules are available for 550 MHz operation. Power doubling and QUADRAPOWER® technologies are used in the bridger amplifier modules at 550 MHz. QUADRAPOWER uses the Magic T configuration in the amplifier modules’ output stage; it uses two separate power doubling ICs which provide 10 dB distortion performance improvement over conventional technology and 5 dB improvement over power doubling technology. This allows the bridger modules to operate at output levels much higher than feedforward technology, which is restricted due to the lower compression point associated with 550 MHz (80-channel) loading.
