Murdoch wins satellite go-ahead
Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has received the go-ahead to take over the main US satellite provider.
Media and competition regulators in Washington approved the $6.8bn plan (£3.9bn) to acquire DirecTV, which sends programmes into 12 million American homes.

The move comes after US officials blocked a rival bid to purchase DirecTV by EchoStar Communications.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement it would not challenge the deal, following the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The FCC set a number of conditions - including a requirement for DirecTV to give local broadcasters access to its satellite system in the US by 2004.

"We're delighted to have received clearances from the FCC and DOJ and we intend to close this transaction with GM (the parent company) in the next few days," Mr Murdoch and the former co-chief operating officer Chase Carey said in a statement.
