You could look up a general or independent agent in the area that markets coverage from many different companies by just checking the Yellow Pages. Most coverage is underwritten by national companies so local doesn't really mean anything unless you are referring to a local insurance agent. Prices also depend on what it is you do and what the exposure is. For example, liability for a sales rep or dispatcher would probably be a lot cheaper than liability for an installer. Make sure you are not overcovering yourself and if you are, changing the exposure rating is where you will save the most money.
Price differences are slight from underwriting company to underwritng company so don't expect much of a break if you switch. Also, many companies will charge you a minimum fat fee up front and will only refund the difference after the policy year is up. So you could be paying a rate that is based on a much larger volume of business or payroll that what you realy have. But if you don't pay the minimum, a lot of companies won't cover you.
Also try a search on the Internet. You just might come up with something.
And this is vital: Be sure every one of your subs/employees carries auto liability insurance no matter what. If they don't and have an accident while on the job and it is their fault, you will probably be stuck with Imputed Negligence because of the Master/Servant relationship you had with the worker. And don't think an independent contractor relationship will get you off from Vicarious Liability. A good lawyer can get around that in a heartbeat and head straight for you financial heart. If an injured party wants to sue, there should be some buffers between you and the person that caused the accident. Don't depend on the General Liability policy to cover you for every contingency.
