If your email address is shown in your Bar account profile (you can check via the View User area in the Account section) then it will be picked up by the spam robots that crawl sites looking for addresses. To prevent your email from being put on junk mail lists, set the "Hide Email Address?" option to "yes" in the Change Options area under the Account section.
The same problem arises by including the email in regular postings. To prevent spam, include a notice that your email address is available by request instead.
To give out your email address in a manner safe from spammers, do it through a Private Message.
