Water pressure works well. Go to Home Depot and get a hose and a shut off valve. Then get a coupler that will fit into your shut off valve and make sure the other end will fit either into your 3/4 pipe or over your pipe. Then go to the job site and dig a very small trench about 8 inches deep 6 inches wide and 3 feet long. Hook up your water hose and attach your make ready coupler / shutoff valve to your piece of pipe. Get your pipe just under the sidewalk or driveway and position your pipe right under the sidewalk or driveway and turn on your water. This will create a easy passage with you pushing the pipe under the obstacle. Do not forget to hold it level so that it rides the top and does not dive. I have shot driveways before where my pipe wants to dive 6 feet. This makes a easy job very difficult. If and when you get good at this and don't hit any cars parked under the driveway, you will be able to shoot from one side of the driveway and your pipe will shoot up from the grass on the other side. Oh I forgot to tell you the obvious, look for water on the other side, this will tell you where to dig. One more thing, water pressure is sometimes not recommended by certain MSO's due to cracks in the customers driveways caused by washing out all the base under the driveway. I will end this saying that I currently use 1/2 pvc and a sludge hammer to complete my sidewalk bores. I tried to help. Next time call me and get me in on the bid.
