There is another issue with feed thru connectors. I'm sure all of you have had moisture migrate into a tap/coupler housing. On a feedthru type connection, there is little protection from that moisture from beginning to corrode the center conductor. Pin connections provide this for you, and if the pin gets corroded, simple replace it. Otherwise your stuck with cutting off the bad cable, and sticking an extension in there.
