The Cisco router (7246) has built in software. It will take a while to learn it .....it took me over a year and I still don't know it all. It will tell you everything from ingress, forward level issues ,return issues and it's a great status monitor tool if you think you have an outage you can verify it before you roll a truck. All Cisco routers have this built in tool.............It's not an easy read and it will challenge you to your limits but once you learn it you can Telnet in from anywhere and read the problems on your router and you modems. There are also some S.N.M.P. programs out there that make it easier but they are expensive and cumbersome . The router will tell you all you need to know.
