Job Description
Coax and Fiber technician: will install, splice, troubleshoot and repair fiber optic cables in the air, underground, and in commercial buildings. This is a senior position on our staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Must be able to pull cable through commercial buildings and conduit outdoors, as required
• Should be able to place basic PVC or EMT conduit for commercial building entry systems
• Set up splice locations, termination points and general fiber optic engineering, construction practices
• Fusion splice fiber optic cables in a production environment for small to large projects
• Splice coax outside plant and inside wiring in accordance with generally accepted standards
• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic and coax networks for acceptance testing, and trouble shooting
• Leadership skills—able to effectively lead others, assign work, assure safety and quality with accurate quality control management as well
• Other duties as assigned
• Must be available for after hours emergency work
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• BICSI or other relevant certifications are highly regarded, not required
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the telecommunications or related field
• Must possess effective time management skills and be able to meet deadlines
• Must have essential computer skills, specifically be able to use Google earth, MS Office and related programs
• Must be analytical, able to exercise good judgment, critical thinking and able to apply logical reasoning in seeking solutions to problems
• Ability to learn new technologies as needed to support future systems
• Must have current unrestricted driver’s license and dot med card
• Candidate will be able to work effectively in a group or alone
• Must be able to lift 80 lbs
