Job Description
Position Overview
The Coax Splicer is responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing of all coax lines within the customer’s network. This position is considered “high impact” to the success of the company. The successful candidate will represent Y-COM in a professional manner while dealing with the customer and the public. Regional travel will be required. This position reports to the Construction Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets for required tasks and sequence
Read and understand site plans, maps, diagrams, designs, and prints needed to support assigned projects
Repair and splice new lines as needed to complete testing and certification
Place and install required coax cable as needed
Installs all passive and active devices, pedestals, vaults and coax splice cases required to house CATV equipment to meet customer requirements
Test Coax-RF lines
Pull Coax through existing duct package, pulling cable through conduit manually, blowing, or mechanically, and splice and activate underground and aerial lines
Optimizes new nodes and splices in node splits to reduce capacity
Utilizes RF Meters and TDR accurately
Complete all production sheets, verify proper levels after activation, and adjusts and troubleshoots as necessary to close assigned projects
Complete all projects with safety as the #1 priority, ensuring compliance with internal safety standards and all governmental orders
Perform as the subject-matter expert when assigned to a project
Quality control of work completed
Safely utilizes bucket trucks or climbs utility poles to place cables on poles per system design
Other projects or duties as assigned
Requirements
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred
Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screening
Proficiency in new build, coax and pole transfers
Ability to use signal level meter, volt-ohm meter, AC clamp meter television test set, spectrum analyzer basic time domain reflectometer and system maps sweep gear
Excellent customer service, time management, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to learn and operate testing equipment and software/programs
Ability to read telecom design maps
Knowledge of aerial and underground construction
Ability to perform Quality Control checks of work completed
Must have a working knowledge of DOT MOT traffic control procedures
Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, solve problems & make effective decisions
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
Utilizes good listening and verbal communications skills to understand and clarify the needs of YCOM crew members and company management
Must be able to work some weekends and stand by when needed
Shift is 12 am (Midnight) - 6 am w/ a 2hr night fee adder
Valid driver's license required and ability to pass a MVR check; class A driver’s license preferred
Ability to travel regionally daily and open to a variety of schedules
Physical Requirements
Wear proper safety apparel, which includes: hard hats (when exiting truck on any worksite) where required, DOT reflective work vest, and proper footwear (boots)
Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs, able to work in a non-climate controlled environment. Possible working in inclement weather standing and driving for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform tasks that require standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, sitting, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, driving and walking.
Ability to work outside in the elements and endure extreme weather conditions
Ability to utilize hand tools, identify wire size/color and accurately utilize measuring devices
Ability to complete tasks with small components and wires
