Re: Cable Industry

The Cable business started when an entrepreneur saw a way to make money selling reliable TV service to subscribers. An industry was born and it was nurtured by the creators of this magical service. Then the accountants got involved and squeezed all the profit out of the business.  Rule number 1 (well certainly in the top 5) in business, is to never let accountants run your business. They only want the numbers to match and are blind to all other aspects of the operation.  They in general have no creativity, therefore they do not know how to make money, only how to cut costs.  An accountant in a salt shaker factory is the kind of a person who would figure out if they only drilled 5 holes in a salt shaker cap instead of 10, they could cut the labor cost in half.  But they could never come up with the idea to sell a pepper shaker along with the salt shaker and double the profits.

Do not get me wrong, we need accountants to keep track of the money flow but they should have very little influence on the operational direction of any company.
