I would say if the exporting from the CAD environment is done correctly, and your doing as builds, you can edit the maps such ass tap and other passive values. If exports to the PDF files are not done well. I believe they would take longer than manual mapping.
I have not used it on any projects myself as most all we are doing is new builds inheriting KMZ files or ESRI.
