Job Description

Henkels & McCoy, Inc. (H&M) is a leading utility construction firm providing critical infrastructure for Communications markets throughout North America. H&M is looking for long term personnel to work on a newly awarded MSA contract in our Wisconsin Telecom program in the Regions listed. The job details and descriptions are listed below.

These positions report to the Construction Project Manager.

The positions are located at the Regional project offices throughout the Southern and Eastern Regions on our Wisconsin project work locations.



Aerial Lineman and Groundman

Major Job Elements
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• Installs and/or and relocates aerial and underground cable including fiber optic, copper, distribution and drop cable. Ensures that it meets industry standards, is technically reliable and performed in timely and cost efficient manner.
• Provides support for Lineman crews during all phases of construction activity.
Qualifications
• Must be able to climb pole to cable height using pole climber gaffs.
• Current valid driver’s license (preferably a CDL) with a clean driving record is required.
• 2+ years of experience as a lineman and have the knowledge to detect power space violations and safety issues
• Must be able to lift, reach, dig and carry heavy objects; with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and infrequent lifting of up to 100 pounds.
• This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Work up to 6 days per week in an all -weather environment and be willing to travel as required.
• A pre-employment, on site certification will be required. The applicant must successfully show that he/she can complete the duties as described within this document to the satisfaction of the construction supervision.
• All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, random testing will be completed after date of hire.
• Must pass a customer driven background check.
• All applicants must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.



Directional Drill Locater

Major Job Elements
• Avoiding damage to existing underground facilities.
• Maintaining a constant focus on operating in a safe working environment.
• Ideal qualifying drill locators will have knowledge and experience with locating equipment.
• Verify all underground mark outs and utilities.
Qualifications
• Have a working knowledge of underground construction.
• Experience with Ditch Witch Sub-Site Tracker, Vermeer F2 or equal trackers.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement is preferred).
• This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
• Must perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• All applicants must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.
• A pre-employment, on site equipment operator certification will be required. The applicant must successfully operate the equipment to the satisfaction of the construction supervision.
• Must pass a customer driven background check.
• Work up to 6 day weeks in an all -weather environment and willing to travel.



Directional Drill Operator

Major Job Elements
• Setting up and operating highly specialized directional drills.
• Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
• Monitoring electronic guidance and locating equipment during the drilling phases.
• Adding or removing drill rods.
• Carrying out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning.
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
Qualifications
• Must have at least 2 years of Direction Drilling experience as the Operator. Additional operator experience for backhoe or excavator is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement is preferred).
• All applicants must be comfortable digging or drilling around existing working underground utilities.
• This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
• Must perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• All applicants must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.
• Work up in an all -weather environment is required.
• A pre-employment, on site equipment operator certification will be required. The applicant must successfully operate the equipment to the satisfaction of the construction supervision.
• Must pass a customer driven background check.
• Must be willing to travel.



Equipment Operators/ Excavators

Major Job Elements
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• May be required to operate various pieces of equipment as needed.
• Provides support for crews during all phases of construction activity.
• Reads and interprets plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
Qualifications
• If not already a union member, then union membership will be required.
• Ability to travel is required.
• Previous experience in construction for utilities.
• Current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for up to the past 5 years is required.
• CDL preferred
• Must be able to perform heavy physical work, and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• This position requires significant time standing or walking on uneven ground, possible climbing of ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
• Work in an all-weather environment is required.
• Must be able to lift heavy material.



Drivers – Class A CDL

Henkels & McCoy, Inc. (H&M) is a leading utility construction firm providing critical infrastructure for Communications markets throughout North America. H&M is currently seeking Drivers – Class A CDL for our Telecom program operating out of SE Wisconsin.
This position reports to the Construction Project Manager. The position is located at the Regional project offices throughout the SE Wisconsin project work locations.

Major Job Elements
• Handles physically demanding construction duties.
• Exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather conditions.
• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines.
• Follow written and/or oral instructions and work under minimum supervision.
• Services equipment with fuel, oil and other needs: checks fluid levels, cleans equipment and vehicles externally and internally, replaces bulbs and filters, etc.
• Maintains accurate records and logs.
• Loading and unloading of heavy equipment.
• Understand and follow all US, state and local DOT laws and regulations.
Qualifications
• Must comply with all company training and safety requirements.
• Must be familiar with computers as needed to secure permits and perform electronic logging of time.
• Must have strong verbal communication skills and the ability to function as part of a team.
• Prior experience in tractor/lowboy heavy hauling.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs.
• Must have a valid Class CDL A license.
• Must be able to pass a DOT drug screen.



Fiber Optic Cable and Copper Cable Splicers

Major Job Elements
• Adhere to and advance Henkels & McCoy’s Safety Principles Work with foreman/construction manager to plan installations as required.
• Use and understand the fiber optic or copper cable color code. Read prints Install and test fiber/copper cable in a variety of environments (underground, aerial).
• Bond and ground fibers according to current specifications.
• Place both aerial and underground splice closures along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic/copper cables.
• Use fiber fusion splicing machines (including a mass fusion splicing machine) and operate a variety of different OTDR and power meters.
• Perform testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs. Record and document testing per customer specifications.
Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience as a fiber/copper cable splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
• Will have a thorough working knowledge of most widely used construction practices of fiber/copper cable.
• Must have the experience to detect safety issues and work independently.
• A pre-employment, on site skills assessment certification will be required. The applicant must successfully prove to the satisfaction of the construction supervision that he/she possesses the fiber splicing abilities required for this position.
• This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Must be capable of carrying a 24 foot ladder and wear fall protection when needed.
• Work up to 6 days per week in an all -weather environment and be willing to travel as required.

Laborers

This position reports to the Construction Project Manager. The position is located at the Regional project offices throughout the SE Wisconsin project work locations.

Major Job Elements
• Cleans and prepares site to eliminate possible hazards.
• Reads and interprets plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
• Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
• Measures, marks, and records openings and distances to lay out areas where worked will be performed.
• Must perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Qualifications
• Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Must comply with all company training and safety requirements.
• Must have strong verbal communication skills and the ability to function as part of a team.
• Must have a valid CDL license.
• Must be able to work on Saturday’s and possibly on Sunday’s.
• Preferred Wind Turbine electrical construction experience.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen.
