Job Description

Compensation: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour depending on experience

Essential Job Roles/Responsibilities:
The main roles of this position are to complete site surveys, service installations, provide tech support, manage assigned tech tickets, and provide site maintenance. This will be the majority of work performed, but other tasks could be assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities
Complete designated amount of work in a specified timeframe with a high degree of quality, adjusting work assignments or schedules to meet changing work-related priorities.
Interact with customers professionally and courteously via telephone, email, and in person.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools (i.e. fusion splicers), including test equipment (i.e., VFL, OTDR) and/or laptop computer to setup, install, repair, and confirm service is functioning properly, to troubleshoot and take appropriate action, and/or to coordinate repair and service issues with the appropriate team or other designated employees
Receive service orders and repair tickets from supervisor or other designated employees and performs specified work.
Work well with others to achieve common goals and foster a cooperative climate, as well as work independently in the field with little supervision.
Work with telecom color-coded wires and cables. Work with basic electricity, as it relates to telecommunications and apply NESC/NEC code
Use a laptop for various purposes, including but not limited to: checking email, reviewing tickets, responding to tickets, reviewing circuit information, etc.
When working with ladders or other equipment with weight-capacity ratings, employees must adhere to the Company safety policy and equipment weight requirements.

Site Surveys
Determine service availability for potential customers through the use of software (i.e. mapping, GIS, management system) and scheduled onsite visits.
Discuss, propose, and get customer approval for aerial/underground cable/conduit routes and location of required installation equipment using approved methods.
Designate ethernet/fiber entry locations and placement of routers and extenders using knowledge of wireless propagation to provide sufficient wireless coverage.
Fill out site survey forms by gathering measurements, pictures, and other information to provide appropriate teams with a complete picture of what is needed to get service to the customer.
Review and discuss service order requirements with customers, evaluating the needs of the customer in addition to recognizing and suggesting additional/alternative services as appropriate.

Installations/Tech Support
Read and interpret customer service orders, repair tickets, technical drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc., and perform specified work.
Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair residential and small business services.
Attach/detach aerial and underground service drops from terminals to the customer premise.
Terminate and test ethernet and fiber connections.
Configure, install, troubleshoot, and repair wireless/wired networks which include modems, routers, network cabling, POE devices, etc.
Install cables and hardware in accordance with NESC/NEC code where applicable.
Monitor equipment monitoring system to ensure proper function and uptime of customer and company equipment and respond to issues.
Verify stock of required inventory items and notify staff if running low.

Tech Tickets
Evaluate, troubleshoot, repair, and respond to reported issues with services/equipment/products through tickets, phone, service calls, etc.
Work with customers to ensure problems are resolved in a timely manner.
Respond to questions on features, usages, applications, capabilities of equipment and services.

Site Maintenance
Maintain designated fiber and wireless locations to ensure proper function, cleanliness, organization, and operation.
Test site equipment, as needed, to ensure proper function (UPS Systems, etc.)


Work Environment
Standard schedule is 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday
Depending on outages or issues in the network it can include varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays.
On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables/equipment until service is restored. This rarely happens and most outages are repaired the next business day.
May be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time.
May work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces).
May perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting objects weighing over 75 pounds.
May perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather).

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficient with power and hand tools.
Possess a valid state driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Ability and willingness to learn new skills.
Ability to:
carry, climb, and operate extension ladder (~28ft and 75 lbs)
climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, bucket trucks, poles) exceeding 18 feet.
drive company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and operate hydraulic aerial lifts.
be able to work independently without supervision.
work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat.
work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces).
work near power lines and electricity.
work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
adhere to local and federal regulations and company policies.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
